Gold stayed under selling pressure into Friday's close, with a second failed attempt to clear resistance leaving the chart looking vulnerable to further downside. The day's $4,225 peak was a four-day high, but it marked another rejection near the July swing high of $4,203 — and the metal finished the session near the bottom of its weekly range.
The technical picture now hinges on two levels. On the downside, a close beneath Thursday's $4,139 low would confirm sellers are back in charge and point toward the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement zone at $4,103-$4,111, which absorbed this week's selling pressure at the $4,111 weekly low. A decisive break of $4,103 exposes $3,942 (June's trough) and, beneath it, the $3,886 swing low from October 2025. On the upside, gold must retake $4,225 and the 50-day average near $4,326 to repair the damaged structure — a tall order after Friday's soft finish.
MarketRadar's live snapshot has spot gold near $4,141, down about 1% on the session, matching FXEmpire's technical gauge, which reads SELL on a heavily bearish vote count, with pivot at $4,171.46 and first resistance at $4,203.65.
Why it matters
Gold's correction matters beyond the bullion market. A sustained slide toward $4,100 would cool one of the year's strongest inflation hedges and feed back into commodity and forex flows, where gold weakness often accompanies dollar strength. With the October G7 move on strategic oil reserves already in the tape (see our G7 oil reserves coverage), energy and metals are both signaling tighter financial conditions.
What to watch
- A daily close below $4,139 — the trigger that would confirm the breakdown
- The Fibonacci zone at $4,103-$4,111 — the last line before the June low
- US jobs and inflation data this week for fresh dollar and rate direction
- Any reclaim of $4,225 followed by the 20-day trend average around $4,285
MarketRadar take
The weight of evidence leans bearish for gold: two rejections at the same resistance zone, a weak weekly close, and negative technical momentum. The line in the sand is $4,103 — while it holds, buyers still have a case; below it, the path clears toward $3,942. Neutral only if gold reclaims the 50-day moving average near $4,326.
